FUTURE NATURE AM CONTEST #3 • SKATELAB SIMI VALLEY, CA

Last weekend, the 3rd contest in the Elemental Awareness/Element Future Nature Am Series went down in Simi Valley, CA at Skatelab. Guest judge and Element Team Rider Mike Barker was at the judges stand leaving no room for sketchy skating. That didn’t seem to be a problem for the day’s top winners Gibson Jones (13 & Under), Tyler Cobb (14-17) and Matthew Lemond (18& up/Sponsored). Additonal standout skating came from Alex Midler, Allysha Bergado & Derek Barman. Congratulations goes out to all the winners who took home prizes from Element and special thanks to Sambazon for keeping the skaters healthy and hydrated during the event.

NYC/NJ POST #3 - DARRELL, MIKE V, DALLAS CHILLED OUT

Cold, icy and windy. That's the current conditions out on the east coast right now, but that doesn't keep the crew from skating. Saturday we hit up KCDC for a good session followed by an all out St. Pattys party. High winds and snow that just wont go away kept us out of the streets again on Sunday. Check out the photos and video from the weekend.

NYC/NJ POST #2 - DARRELL, MIKE V, DALLAS GET HIT WITH SNOW

A couple days ago Darrell was skating in a tank top, that certainly came and went. Thursday we got some skating in under the drizzling sky before it started to come down and Friday morning we were greeted with a blanket of snow and heavy sleet throughout the day. We were able to get into a nice mini ramp in Asbury Park, stayed on our boards but it sure is cold! Check out photos from the last couple days here.

'THIS IS MY ELEMENT' TEAM WEEKEND REPORT

This weekend Element riders stayed busy skating, filming and even fit in a signing. On Saturday Tosh, Darrell, Tave & Collin stopped by the re-opening of the Mission Valley YMCA Park. Riders signed ‘This Is My Element’ posters and mingled with the many on hand. The crew then skated through the night clocking footy for the video. Darrell set this San Diego spot off before Tosh got his. Everyone kept it going on Sunday, Lacey Baker endured the heat wave and came up on some footy in her hometown of Covina. Overall another very productive weekend in So-Cal. Today Mike V, Darrell and Dallas head to NYC for a week of East Coast filming, look for updates on that coming soon.

ELEMENT/PSSTIX WELCOME LOCAL STUDENTS FOR TOUR

Element, Elemental Awareness and skateboard manufacturer PS Stix hosted a career day for a select group of local high school skaters last Friday. Students were given a tour of the skateboard factory by Paul Schmitt, the man responsible for the science behind the board your riding today. Next they headed over to Element Skateboards for a tour of the offices given by Element President and Founder Johnny Schillereff. Tosh Townend and Dallas Rockvam stopped by to talk about what it took for them to get to where they are today, and answered questions. Overall the students were given a first hand look at all available jobs in the industry from board design to clothing design, from graphic design to sales all the way up to the coveted ranks of pro skater. Thanks to all the skaters that came through and spent the day with us.

BROOKE REIDT ART SHOW

Coastal in West Seattle and Teen Vogue hosted the Element Eden Advocate Brooke Reidt show recently and drew quite a crowd.

For the show, Brooke cut out over 50 birds and bees from plywood and painted each one with layers of paint, shapes, and unique characteristics. She then crafted all of the creatures into a tree on one of the Coastal walls.

Jasmin from Teen Vogue was also on-hand, making original appliqués from Brooke's Element tee graphics. DJ Marcus spun tunes and people chatted, shopped, and checked out Brooke's work.

Brooke's original pieces will hang at Coastal through mid March. For each piece sold, she will be donating 20% to Project Luz, a non-profit whose goal is to give at risk kids an artistic outlet and education by providing workshops and classes led by professional artists and educators.

A HUGE thank you goes out to Sarah and Christy, owners of Coastal Surf Boutique for a great night, and also to Jasmin and Teen Vogue!
