FUTURE NATURE FINALS

Last Saturday the top skaters from each of the Future Nature contests came to Woodward West to compete in the Championships with a years supply of decks at stake. In the 13 & under division, tons of young rippers battled it out hitting handrails that were well above waist high on them. In the end Isaiah Johnson claimed victory along with 12 boards and trophy . The 14-17 division was no easier to judge with great skating from David Gonzalez among others, but in the end, Boo Johnson took home 1st place and earned himself a Scholarship to Element YMCA Skate Camp along with decks. In the 18 and up division, the crown was passed graciously from our last year’s winner, Sean Rodriguez, who took home second place, to Matt Lemond with Jason Martinez close behind them both. The Sambazon Skate Camp Scholarship Award went to Caedyn Curto for his outstanding skateboarding and sportsmanship. Special thanks goes out to all competitors, click here to check out a video from the event.

ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION WORKSHOP IN SAN RAFAEL, CA

This week Elemental Awareness taught a Wilderness Education workshop in San Rafael,CA for students at San Andreas High. The two day workshop consisted of basic & intermediate wilderness survival skills. The first Day, students were taught how to build a shelter, find water, make fire by friction and find food out in the wilderness. Jason took home top honors by making his first bowdrill fire; he also found the hidden skateboard camoed in the tree during and Awareness exercise. Day two of the workshop went into advanced wilderness survival and awareness skills. The students build a 'scout pit,' an advanced shelter close to invisible. Hand drill friction fire making was practiced successfully by multiple groups. Students also participated in a 'blindfolded drum stalk,' where students are blindfolded and spread out over the landscape and told to move towards the sound of a drum . This teaches students to slow down and become more aware of the wilderness focusing on senses other than sight. Thanks goes out to Allen Charne for bringing us out and all instructors that assisted to make this a safe and joyful educational experience.

GET IN TOUCH WITH BAM

A current pop culture tabloid is highlighting Bam’s personal domicile as the “in” thing. If the average person spent more than 10 minutes hanging out there, they would most likely be less inclined to follow suit. In Touch magazine further suggests your pad can look like Bam’s by purchasing items sort of similar to those that he owns, uhhhh, how about the ramp instead?
